Early detection of tank chamber leak points is critical to prevent bigger fuel quality problems.
This photo shows small bubbling around an underground fill point. Unfortunately, the long-term water ingress was the likely cause of high levels of bacterial growth within the tank and bacterial corrosion, particularly at the far end of the tank.
The fuel was found to be cloudy throughout and a sample from the top confirmed the product was wet. All the fuel was uplifted and taken for disposal with a rebate cost of 55p per litre.
The next steps for this site include a thorough manned entry or robotic tank clean to remove all bacterial growth and fill point replacement.
