When Eurotank Environmental received a call from a customer that had detected water in a petrol tank and required an uplift and tank test, the only problem was the location.
The tank was located in a small village on the mainland of the Orkney Islands in the North of Scotland. Because of the remote location and being a popular tourist destination in the summer, a timely response was critical.
Greg Wyatt, Eurotank Technical Sales Manager, said: “We needed to respond quickly because it was drawing unwanted attention and disruption for our customer. Having one of the area’s only fuelling points out of action was also far from ideal.
“Jobs in remote locations are always more challenging because we have to co-ordinate the tanker and operatives travelling on a ferry and the timing has to be just right, taking into account that the tanker would be returning with fuel.”
The off-spec fuel was uplifted and the tank and pipework tested. Both were found to be tight and the water ingress likely occurred during a fuel delivery.
Eurotank’s fleet of company-owned tankers are all ADR-compliant and range from multi-compartment high-powered vacuum tankers to single compartment high-powered vacuum articulated tankers.
